High Pressure Testing Systems with Threaded Closures

The KW Designed Solutions threaded closure high pressure testing vessel, utilises a two-piece closure system, which consists of a plug and captive lock ring. They are an economical alternative to our range of quick-acting closures and are generally specified for small to medium sized pressure vessels.

The closure is easy to handle, safe, reliable and robust in operation. It incorporates a unique smooth-form thread and low friction coating, that allows effortless opening/ closing of the vessel, without tooling. This provides the operator with quick and easy access into the pressure vessel if required; offering many advantages over a typically bolted closure.

The threaded closure allows low-cost elastomeric o-rings, back-up ring combinations or engineered plastic seals to be fitted; rather than metal to metal seals. Thus, making service and maintenance cheaper and the pressure vessel more cost-effective.

These vessels require minimal shop floor space, as they are used in a vertical orientation. With the incorporation of a vessel and closure support frame, they can be supplied horizontally; ensuring closure alignment is maintained with the vessel body.

Features

  • Materials of Construction: Stainless Steels, Exotic Steels (Hastelloy, Inconel), Carbon and Alloy Steels
  • Pressure Ratings: 50 Bar to 3000 Bar
  • Seal Types: O-Ring and Back-Up Ring, PTFE, Spring Seal, Bespoke Design
  • Size: Ø25mm to Ø400mm bore and depths of 50mm to 2.5m
  • Temperature: -50°C to 250°C
  • Vessel Configuration: Vertical or horizontal with a single closure and blind bore or with dual closures
  • Volumes: 50mm to 250 Litres

Benefits

  • Low cost
  • Opening and closing from 1 minute to 10 minutes depending on the size and pressure rating
  • Quick and easy access into pressure vessel without the need for tooling
  • Sealing elements are easy to service and maintain
  • Smooth-form thread and low friction coating helps to drive the seal into place with minimal effort and wear

Applications and Customer Uses

Threaded closure pressure vessels are popular in industries where a simple and economically priced vessel is required, that allows relatively quick and easy access.

Customers in the energy and subsea sectors use threaded closure pressure vessels for product verification, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and production testing of subsea electrical components, hoses, cables, penetrators and valve seal arrangements.

The closure is a popular choice with customers from scientific and material research industries; working at pressures up to 400 Bar at 200°C and those who require smaller bench top reactor vessels. These can be 50ml to 1 litre; for use in laboratories, working at pressures up to 200 bar at 250°C.
