Introduction:

Siemens Mobility has made a significant investment in its Cornellà factory to expand both production capacity and its product portfolio.

Features:

Siemens Mobility is enhancing production across multiple areas. This includes the inauguration of a new gearbox production line and the establishment of a welding competence center for converter cabinets. These investments are in response to increasing market demand and are part of Siemens Mobility's commitment to excellence in essential traction components for rail vehicle manufacturers worldwide.

New Gearbox Production Line

This May, the factory commenced production of its first rail gearboxes on a new manufacturing line. Initially, the line will focus exclusively on manufacturing heavy gearboxes, such as those for locomotives, starting with those produced by Siemens Mobility. The initial production capacity of approximately 500 units per year is set to increase in the second phase as production scales up to meet the demand for gearboxes in the Iberian market.

The installation of the new production line required the conversion of a separate manufacturing hall at the Cornellà factory and an increase in the company’s workforce. This project aligns with Siemens Mobility’s global growth strategy and is expected to further enhance local value creation in the Iberian market.

Competence Center for Converter Cabinets

A year ago, Siemens Mobility began establishing a welding competence center for converter cabinets, which now employs more than 80 experts. Once fully operational, the center aims to solidify Siemens Mobility's position as a leading competence hub in the manufacture of converter cabinets.
