Iran plans power plants on Armenia border

Iran plans to build two hydraulic and solar power plants on its border with Armenia, the head of Iranian delegation of Iran-Armenia Joint Economic Cooperation Commission was quoted as saying in a media report.

"We have good cooperation in the field of water resources, especially Aras River and we are working on the quality issues of the river which is important to us,” Alireza Daemi was quoted by Iran Daily, which cited Irna, referring to his talks with Ashot Manukyan, Armenia's minister of energy infrastructures and natural resources.

Transfer of electricity via a 400-KW line is also on the agenda, he said, noting that currently two 230 KW lines have been set up which are not sufficient and a line with higher capacity is necessary.

A hydraulic power plant is under construction near the Armenian border, Daemi said, noting that a  50-MW solar power plant will also be built by the Iranian firms there.
